Piano apps

Since the time I dreamt of getting the iPad Pro12.9”, I’ve been wanting to use it as a digital music score because if you have used the music sheets in good old paper form, you would’ve struggled when the wind suddenly blows at your music stand and your sheet music flies. Or trying to flip to the next page in less than a split second so you can keep to the tempo, which is impossible to do so. Now the ipad displays my music in digital format and I swipe to turn the page, which is instantaneous and I don’t have to lug the thick music file around.

The app that I used is a paid app. I used it before while ago and didn’t remember having to pay for it. I purchased the song book for 2.99 usd I think. The app is called songbook and the icon looks like this:

What’s so cool about this app is that users can submit their music arrangements to the database and we can basically search for any song we want. The music score can also be transposed to any key of your choice and there is a playback button to preview the song. You can also change the tempo and this is perfect for practising. You can simply slow down the tempo and play the midi and practise along. Awesome isn’t it? For the low price, this is definitely a keeper.

Another music app that I’m using now is the Simply Piano app which runs on monthly or annual subscription and offers a 7 day free trial. Beware that the 7 days will fly by in a flash and you will be charged the full amount to your card. It happened to me. However, I try to make full use of the app since I had to pay for it. It’s the best piano learning app I’ve used. The part I liked most is that it gives you ample practice if you play the wrong notes a few times or miss the tempo. They also take note
reading seriously which is an important skill to have for a musician. Playing by ear isn’t good enough. Neither is reading scores in numbers like how some do. No offence intended but the good old crochets and minims and so on are really the foundations of music playing. They also make playing simple notes fun by having catchy background tracks with some favourite tunes.

Download it and give it a try! If you don’t intend to purchase, do set a reminder to cancel the subscription or it will be charged to your card automatically.

The app looks looks like this:

That sums up my sharing for today piano (music) apps. adios!
